Buck-boost topology for battery-powered rails
The MAX77827BEWC+ is a step-up/step-down (buck-boost) switching regulator from Analog Devices that accepts an input from 2.6 V to 5.5 V and delivers an adjustable output from 2.3 V up to 5.3 V. Its 1.8 A switch current rating defines the power ceiling — actual output current depends on the input-to-output delta and efficiency, but the topology means the output stays regulated whether the battery is above or below the target rail. Switching at 2.5 MHz, the converter lets the external inductor and capacitors shrink to 0402 or 0603 footprints — important when the board area is tight around the 12-WLP (1.61 x 2.01 mm) package. No synchronous rectifier is used, so expect slightly lower efficiency at heavy loads compared to a synchronous part, but the simpler gate drive keeps quiescent current low.
