16-bit I/O expander with integrated PWM for LED dimming
The MAX7313ATG+T is a 16-bit I/O expander from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) that adds 16 GPIO pins to a system via an I²C or SMBus interface, with the key differentiator being integrated PWM functionality on each output. Each of the 16 open-drain I/O pins can sink or source up to 50 mA, and the built-in PWM generator allows individual brightness control for LEDs without requiring a separate PWM controller or timer resource from the host MCU. The I²C/SMBus interface runs at 400 kHz, and the part includes an interrupt output (IRQ) that asserts when an input changes state, reducing polling overhead in the firmware.
