20 I/O port expander on the I2C bus
The MAX7300AAI+ is a 20-port I/O expander from Analog Devices, controlled over a 400 kHz I2C serial interface. It adds 20 push-pull GPIO lines to a host MCU that may be short on pins, without consuming additional address space — the slave address is set by three hardware pins, so up to eight devices share the same bus segment. Each I/O can source 4.5 mA or sink 10 mA, enough to drive LEDs directly or interface to logic inputs without a buffer. An interrupt output signals the host when an input changes, eliminating the need for continuous polling over I2C.
28-SSOP package and board integration
Housed in a 28-SSOP (0.209-inch body width, 5.30 mm), the MAX7300AAI+ uses a standard 0.65 mm pitch footprint. The supplier device package is 28-SSOP, so the land pattern matches the common SSOP-28 library part. Tube packaging means the parts ship in anti-static tubes — store the reels dry if the tube is opened and the ambient humidity is above the MSL rating.
Active lifecycle and compliance
ROHS3 compliant, so it meets the EU RoHS directive without exemption.
