8-digit LED driver with serial control
The MAX7219EWG+T is a serial-input/output common-cathode display driver that interfaces microcontrollers to 7-segment LED displays of up to 8 digits, including decimal points. Communication is over a 4-wire serial interface (data in, data out, load, clock), which keeps the host pin count low — three output pins plus one optional input for daisy-chaining multiple drivers.
Supply and current budget
The driver draws up to 330 mA supply current when all segments are lit at full brightness — this is the peak load the 5 V rail must deliver, and it sets the minimum regulator rating for the display subsystem.
Package and board integration
Housed in a 24-SOIC wide-body package (0.295 inch body width, 7.50 mm), with a 1.27 mm pin pitch that routes cleanly on a two-layer board. Surface-mount assembly — the wide SOIC footprint is standard and does not require vias under the package for thermal relief; the copper pour under the body handles the dissipation.
