The MAX698CWE+ is a Simple Reset/Power-On Reset supervisor IC from Analog Devices — it monitors a single 5V supply rail and holds the processor in reset until the supply is stable and the oscillator has settled. It provides both Active High and Active Low reset outputs, configurable as open-drain or push-pull, so it can drive most MCU or DSP reset inputs without extra glue logic. The 140ms minimum reset timeout gives the power supply and crystal time to stabilise before the processor starts executing — a common field issue when the timeout is too short.
The 4.65V threshold is set for 5V nominal systems — it asserts reset when VCC drops below 4.65V, which is about 7% below 5V. That is a tight window; if your supply has 10% tolerance, the supervisor may trip on brownout conditions that a 4.55V-threshold part would ignore. For automotive or outdoor telecom, you would need the industrial or military-grade variant in the same family.
Active lifecycle — no obsolescence risk on this line
It is supplied in a tube, surface-mount 16-SOIC (0.295-inch body width, 7.50mm width), which is a common footprint for supervisor ICs and easy to rework with a standard hot-air station. ROHS3 compliant, so it fits lead-free assembly lines without exemption paperwork.
