What the segment and digit configuration means for your display
The MAX6954ATL+ drives common-cathode LED displays in 7-segment, 14-segment, or 16-segment configurations, supporting up to 8 digits or 16 digits depending on the segment count per digit. A 4-wire SPI-compatible serial interface handles the data transfer, keeping the host-side pin count low — three control lines plus data in, with no external latch needed.
Supply current is 22 mA typical — the display load current is separate and set by the external LED resistors, so the IC's own dissipation stays low even with many segments lit.
The Tray packaging means the ICs are shipped in anti-static trays, not tape-and-reel — factor this into pick-and-place feeder setup if using automated assembly.
RoHS3 compliant (2011/65/EU + 2015/863), with no exemptions that would complicate EU market placement.
