Dual-channel temperature monitor with integrated fan control
The Maxim Integrated MAX6615AEE+ is a dual-channel temperature monitor that combines an internal temperature sensor with support for an external diode-connected transistor, giving you two temperature measurement points in a single 16-QSOP package. On top of monitoring, it integrates an ADC, a PWM generator for fan-speed control, and a tachometer counter for reading fan RPM — so this one chip handles both thermal supervision and active cooling management. Output is over SMBus, which keeps the interface clean on a shared bus with other power-management or supervisory ICs. Accuracy is rated at ±4°C maximum, which is typical for system-level thermal management where the goal is to prevent overtemperature rather than measure a precise process value. The part operates across the full -40°C to 125°C range, making it a fit for industrial enclosures, server racks, base-station power amps, or any equipment where a fan needs to spin up based on a temperature threshold.
SMBus interface and supply range
Communication is SMBus, not I²C — they share the same two-wire bus electrically, but SMBus has stricter timing and a defined timeout.
Package and mounting
The MAX6615AEE+ comes in a 16-pin SSOP (0.154-inch body width, 3.90 mm) — the supplier device package is called 16-QSOP, which is essentially the same footprint. It's a surface-mount part, so it reflows with the rest of the board. No special handling beyond standard SMT. The shipping medium is a tube; if your pick-and-place line feeds from tape, check whether your distributor can supply it in tape-and-reel (the order code sometimes appends a suffix for reel — verify at quote time).
Lifecycle and sourcing
The MAX6615AEE+ is listed as Active with ROHS3 compliance. For BOM freeze or second-source qualification, there's no LTB pressure. Sourcing is through independent distribution — we quote against an RFQ with current availability and pricing confirmed at quote time. If you need a volume commitment or a scheduled release, let us know the quantity and target date when you send the RFQ.
