DIMM DDR thermal monitoring with ±3°C accuracy
The MAX6604AAHA+ is a temperature monitoring system designed specifically for DIMM DDR memory modules, integrating an internal sensor with a 2-wire I²C/SMBus serial interface. Its ±3°C maximum accuracy over the full -20°C to +125°C sensing range means the host controller can reliably detect a memory module approaching its thermal ceiling before data errors occur — the ±3°C guard band is tight enough to trigger an early warning without false alarms from sensor tolerance.
Supply rail and interface compatibility
The I²C/SMBus output type allows direct connection to the memory controller's management bus; the bus capacitance budget must accommodate the sensor's input capacitance plus the trace and connector parasitics, typically staying under 400 pF for standard-mode I²C. An output alarm pin asserts when the measured temperature crosses a programmable threshold, providing a hardware interrupt to the system management controller without polling the bus. This reduces firmware overhead in a multi-DIMM server platform where every microsecond of SMBus bandwidth matters.
Housed in an 8-TSSOP package (4.40 mm width, 0.65 mm pitch), the MAX6604AAHA+ occupies a footprint compatible with standard DDR DIMM thermal sensor locations — typically near the centre of the module edge, close to the DRAM devices.
