Active production — what it means for the BOM
The MAX640ESA+T: ROHS3 compliance is confirmed, clearing EU regulatory requirements without an exemption expiry concern.
Parametric fit for the rail
This is a step-down (buck) switching regulator with a single positive output rated for 225 mA continuous. The output can be set to a fixed 3.3V or adjusted down to 1.3V — the adjustable version gives flexibility for non-standard rail voltages without an external LDO cascade. Input voltage range spans 4V to 11.5V, so it works from a 5V rail or a 12V rail with margin. The output voltage maximum matches the input maximum at 11.5V, meaning the part can operate in near-100% duty cycle if the input is close to the output target. No synchronous rectifier is integrated — the external Schottky diode selection matters for efficiency at the 225 mA load point. The 1.3V minimum output is useful for powering low-voltage core logic or I/O banks directly.
Package and thermal integration
The supplier device package is 8-SOIC, matching the package/case entry. This covers most equipment enclosures, control cabinets, and outdoor telecom shelters without requiring a wider-temperature part. Available in Tape & Reel (TR) for automated pick-and-place or Cut Tape (CT) for prototype and low-volume builds. The reel quantity is the standard 8-SOIC carrier format.
