What the reset polarity and output type mean for your design
The MAX6301CSA+T is a single-channel supervisor IC that asserts a reset signal when the monitored voltage drops below the threshold. The Active Low reset means the output goes low during a fault — the standard convention for most MCU reset pins, so it connects directly without an inverter. Its Open Drain or Open Collector output lets you pull the reset line to any voltage up to the absolute maximum rating of the pin, independent of the IC's supply. This is useful when the supervisor runs on a different rail than the processor it resets — common in multi-voltage designs where the core and I/O supplies sequence separately.
Reset timeout and threshold flexibility
A minimum reset timeout of 2.8 ms ensures the processor stays in reset long enough for the supply to stabilise after a brown-out or power-up event. For a typical MCU with a 10–50 ms power-up delay, this timeout is on the short side — the designer should verify the processor's own power-on reset (POR) timer covers the gap, or extend the timeout with an external capacitor if the MAX6301 variant supports it. The voltage threshold is adjustable or selectable via external resistor dividers or pin-strapping, depending on the specific MAX6301 variant.
Package, mounting, and temperature grade
The supplier device package is also 8-SOIC, so the footprint is standard and well-supported by PCB layout tools. This restricts the part to indoor, temperature-controlled environments. For industrial or automotive applications requiring -40°C to +85°C or wider, a different MAX6301 variant (e.g., the MAX6301ESA with extended temp) would be the correct choice.
