The MAX6250AESA+ is a series, buried-zener voltage reference from Analog Devices, producing a fixed 5V output in an 8-SOIC surface-mount package. Buried-zener topology gives lower long-term drift and noise than bandgap references, which matters when the reference sits ahead of a 16-bit or higher ADC in an industrial or instrumentation signal chain. Initial tolerance is ±0.02% — that is 1 mV on a 5V output, tight enough that a production test system can skip a system-level gain trim for many 12- and 14-bit applications. Temperature coefficient is 3 ppm/°C, so from 25°C to 85°C the output shifts by at most 0.9 mV; a 16-bit ADC with a 5V reference sees about 3 LSBs of drift from the reference alone across that span. For a 16-bit system with a 5V reference, the integrated noise from DC to 10 kHz is roughly 0.5 LSB rms — below the quantization noise floor, so the reference does not limit the ADC's effective resolution.
Supply and load — headroom and drive capability
Input voltage range is 8V to 36V, so the reference runs from a 12V or 24V industrial rail with margin. The 3.3 mA quiescent current is the reference's own draw; the 15 mA output current can drive multiple ADC reference inputs or a small resistive load without an external buffer.
