Precision reference topology and noise floor
The MAX6250ACSA+T uses a series buried zener architecture — this topology delivers lower noise and better long-term stability than bandgap references, at the cost of higher supply current. The 3µVp-p noise from 0.1Hz to 10Hz and 2.5µVrms from 10Hz to 10kHz make it suitable for driving high-resolution SAR or delta-sigma ADCs where reference noise directly limits the signal-to-noise ratio.
Supply headroom and load drive
Input voltage range is 8V to 36V — the 3V dropout above the 5V output is the minimum headroom required for the buried zener to regulate. A 12V or 24V rail is typical; the part survives up to 36V, so it can share a bus with 24V industrial supplies without an extra pre-regulator. Output current capability is 15mA, enough to bias multiple ADC reference inputs or a precision DAC's reference buffer. The 3.3mA supply current is the quiescent draw — at no load the reference still consumes this, so it is not a low-power part for battery applications but is acceptable for bench instruments and industrial control boards.
Housed in the standard 8-SOIC package (3.90mm width), the MAX6250ACSA+T shares the footprint with countless other SOIC-8 devices — no layout surprise. The surface-mount assembly is compatible with reflow soldering; the Tape & Reel option (cut tape also available) suits both prototype pick-and-place and production reels. The fixed 5V output eliminates the need for external resistor dividers or trim pots — the ±0.02% initial accuracy is factory-set.
