The MAX5980GTJ+T is a four-channel Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) controller designed for Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. It complies with both 802.3af (PoE) and 802.3at (PoE+) standards, delivering up to 70 W per port — enough to power high-draw devices like PTZ cameras or thin clients from a single Ethernet cable. Because the controller lacks internal power switches, each channel requires an external MOSFET and sense resistor — a design choice that lets you size the FET for the exact thermal budget of the board. The 32-V to 60-V input range covers standard PoE rails (48 V nominal) with margin for cable drop and transient events.

Operating from 32 V to 60 V with a 5-mA supply current, the MAX5980GTJ+T draws negligible overhead for a four-port PSE. The -40°C to +105°C range suits it for outdoor or industrial Ethernet switches where the enclosure sees solar gain or unventilated heat.
