Hot swap controller for board-level power protection
The MAX5976AETE+T is a single-channel hot swap controller from Analog Devices, designed to manage inrush current and protect downstream circuitry during board insertion into a live backplane. With an internal switch rated for 7 A continuous output and a supply range from 2.7 V to 18 V, it handles a wide variety of bus voltages found in telecom, networking, and industrial equipment.
Programmable protection and thermal management
Programmable circuit breaker and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) thresholds let you tailor the protection profile to the load — set the current trip point and the voltage at which the switch turns on or off. Auto-retry and thermal limit features mean the controller attempts to restart after a fault clears and shuts itself down if the die temperature exceeds the safe operating area, reducing the risk of a board fire in a fault condition. The controller itself draws 5 mA from the supply rail, a modest overhead for a 7 A-capable switch.
Fully ROHS3 compliant, with no exemptions for lead, mercury, or other restricted substances — suitable for EU and global markets requiring environmental compliance.
