Product details

Two-channel PCI Express slot controller with programmable protection

The MAX5904ESA+ is a dual-channel hot swap controller from Analog Devices, part of the VariableSpeed/BiLevel™ series, designed to manage inrush current and fault protection on PCI Express® add-in card slots. Each of the two independent channels controls the gate of an external N-channel MOSFET, allowing the controller to sequence power rails without an internal switch. Programmable features include circuit breaker threshold, current limit, and fault timeout, configurable with external resistors and capacitors. The UVLO and auto-retry features allow the controller to recover from a fault condition without a system reset, which is useful in hot-plug environments where a card may be inserted with a pre-existing short.

Active production and compliance status

The part is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the current restriction of hazardous substances directive for lead, mercury, cadmium, and other substances.

Frequently asked questions

What is the MAX5904ESA+ used for?

It is a dual-channel hot swap controller for PCI Express slots. It manages inrush current during card insertion, provides overcurrent protection via an external MOSFET, and supports auto-retry after a fault clears.
