Programmable protection features
The MAX5901AAETT+ gives the designer control over several protection parameters: current limit, circuit breaker threshold, fault timeout, slew rate for output ramp control, and UVLO (undervoltage lockout). It also supports auto retry or latched fault behaviour on overcurrent events. This programmability is set via external resistor and capacitor values, not digital pins — so the BOM includes a few passives to configure the behaviour. For a networking line card that must survive a shorted backplane connector, the latched fault option with a timed retry is the typical choice.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -40°C to 85°C ambient, the MAX5901AAETT+ covers industrial and telecom indoor environments. This is not an automotive-grade part (no AEC-Q100), but it suits base station equipment, central office switches, and industrial controllers where the ambient stays inside that window.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The MAX5901AAETT+ carries an Active lifecycle status from Maxim Integrated. For a BOM line that needs a -48V hot swap controller, this part is a current-production choice with no near-term obsolescence risk.
