10-bit dual DAC with I²C — the repair-bench fit check
The MAX5821MEUA+ is a 10-bit, dual-channel, voltage-buffered DAC from Analog Devices, built on a string-DAC architecture. Data transfer uses the I²C bus — two wires (SDA, SCL) handle both channel writes and the internal register updates. The 12 µs settling time to ±0.5 LSB means the output settles within one I²C frame at standard 100 kHz clock rates, and still keeps up at 400 kHz fast-mode without stretching the bus.
Linearity and drift — what the ±0.5 LSB spec means on the bench
INL and DNL are both specified at ±0.5 LSB maximum — no missing codes guaranteed across the full 10-bit range. For a 2.5 V reference, one LSB is 2.44 mV, so the output lands within 1.22 mV of the ideal transfer curve at every code. That is tight enough for open-loop trim and set-point applications where the downstream ADC has 12-bit resolution or less. The external reference input (REF) sets the full-scale voltage; the DAC output swings rail-to-rail from zero to REF.
Package and footprint — 8-uMAX for tight layouts
The supplier device package is 8-uMAX/uSOP, which is the same 3×3 mm footprint as a standard MSOP-8 but with a thinner 1.1 mm seated height — useful when the board stacks against a cover or another PCB. Shipping in tube format — 50 or 100 per tube depending on the reel option.
