Quad 12-bit DAC with I²C and internal reference
The MAX5815BAUD+ from Analog Devices integrates four 12-bit digital-to-analog converters with a voltage-buffered output in a single 14-TSSOP package. It communicates over an I²C interface, making it a straightforward addition to a mixed-signal control loop or calibration DAC bank on a processor bus.
Resolution and linearity budget
At 12 bits, the DAC provides 4096 output codes. The ±0.5 LSB INL and ±0.2 LSB DNL mean the output stays monotonic and the integral linearity error stays within half an LSB across the code range — no missing codes, no systematic bow that would need software correction in a precision setpoint application. The 4.5 µs typical settling time to ±0.5 LSB sets the update rate ceiling. At 12 bits, the output reaches its final value within one I²C frame at standard 400 kHz bus speed; the bus cycle, not the DAC, limits the per-channel update rate in most designs.
Supply and reference flexibility
The reference can be driven externally or drawn from the internal bandgap, saving a reference IC and its PCB footprint. The 14-TSSOP package (4.4 mm body width) fits a standard SOIC footprint layout; the 0.65 mm pin pitch routes out on a two-layer board without micro-vias.
