What this digital pot brings to the board
The MAX5483EUD+ is a single-channel, 10kΩ digital potentiometer from Analog Devices configured as a rheostat with 1024 tap positions. The linear taper transfer function suits voltage-divider and adjustable-reference circuits where the wiper position scales linearly with the digital code. Non-volatile memory holds the wiper setting at power-up, so the board comes up at the programmed resistance without a microcontroller initialisation routine — useful in trims where the processor boots later or may not be present at all.
Interface and control
Two control schemes are available: a standard SPI-compatible serial interface, or a three-wire up/down interface using the U/D, INC, and CS pins. The up/down mode is handy when you have limited digital I/O or want to adjust the wiper with a simple pushbutton or PLC digital output without a serial frame. The SPI path gives direct register access for setting the wiper code and reading back the stored value.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The MAX5483EUD+ carries an Active product status and is ROHS3 compliant. No direct pin-compatible second source is listed in the official record.
