16-bit voltage-output DAC with R-2R architecture
The Maxim MAX541CCSA+ is a 16-bit, single-channel, voltage-output digital-to-analog converter built around an R-2R ladder architecture. It delivers a 1 µs typical settling time, making it suitable for closed-loop control systems, waveform generation, and precision calibration where fast updates are needed. The unbuffered voltage output drives high-impedance loads directly; for lower-impedance loads, an external buffer is expected. Communication is handled over a standard SPI data interface, which keeps the digital pin count low and simplifies connection to most MCUs and DSPs.
5V single-supply operation, commercial temperature range
Both the analog and digital supply rails run from a single 5 V supply, simplifying power distribution on the board. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C, which limits this part to commercial-grade, indoor environments — office equipment, test and measurement, benchtop instrumentation, and similar controlled settings. For industrial or automotive temperature requirements, a different grade would be needed.
Package and footprint
Housed in an 8-pin SOIC package (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm width), the MAX541CCSA+ fits standard SOIC-8 land patterns. It is supplied in Tube form. Surface-mount assembly is straightforward for any line equipped for SOIC packages.
Sourcing and lifecycle
It is also ROHS3 compliant, so it meets the latest EU RoHS exemption-free requirements. No last-time-buy or obsolescence notice is in effect. For BOM planning, this part can be specified into new designs without near-term supply risk.
