What this digital pot brings to the board
The MAX5419META+T is a single-channel, 200 kΩ digital potentiometer from Analog Devices with 256 tap positions and a linear taper. It communicates over I²C, stores the wiper setting in non-volatile memory, and comes in an 8-TDFN package (3x3 mm). Typical use cases include calibration trim, volume control, programmable voltage dividers, and adjustable filter cutoffs in industrial or instrumentation gear.
Package and mounting
The wiper resistance is typically 325 Ω, which adds a small series offset at the ends of the range. For a precision divider, factor that into your ratio calculation at the zero- and full-scale endpoints.
Non-volatile memory — set it and forget it
The wiper position is stored in non-volatile memory, so on power-up the pot goes straight to the last programmed value. No need for firmware to re-initialize it after every reset. That is useful for fixed-gain amplifiers, calibration constants, or any application where the trim must survive a power cycle.
I²C interface and selectable address
Communication is over I²C. The selectable address feature allows multiple devices on the same bus. Supply range is 2.7 V to 5.25 V.
Package and temperature range
Housed in an 8-TDFN with exposed pad (3x3 mm body), the part is surface-mount and suited for compact layouts. The operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C covers industrial environments — factory floor, outdoor telecom cabinets, and engine bays (non-automotive). The temperature coefficient is typically 35 ppm/°C, so the resistance drifts very little over temperature.
Lifecycle and sourcing
It is ROHS3 compliant.
