What this digital pot does on the board
The Maxim MAX5417NETA+T is a single-channel, 256-tap digital potentiometer with a 50 kΩ end-to-end resistance and a linear taper. It replaces a mechanical trimmer in volume-control, reference-divider, or sensor-calibration circuits where you want digital set-and-forget adjustment over I²C. The non-volatile memory holds the wiper position when power cycles — no re-initialization routine needed at boot. Supply range is 2.7 V to 5.25 V. Wiper resistance is 325 Ω typical. Temperature coefficient runs 35 ppm/°C typical across -40°C to +85°C. Packaged in an 8-TDFN with exposed pad (3x3 mm), it's a surface-mount part for compact PCB layouts. The I²C interface includes a selectable address feature, letting you put up to four devices on the same bus without address conflicts.
