The MAX5402EUA+ is a single-channel, 256-tap digital potentiometer from Analog Devices' µPoT series. End-to-end resistance is 10 kOhm with a linear taper. That gives you about 39 Ohm per step — fine enough to set a voltage divider ratio or trim a reference without external resistors. It talks over SPI — three wires (CS, SCK, DIN) plus the wiper output. No address lines because it is a single device, so the bus master just clocks in a 8-bit word to set the wiper position. The wiper resistance is 275 Ohm typical, which matters if you are sourcing current into a low-impedance load. Temperature coefficient is 35 ppm/°C typical — the resistance drifts about 0.35 Ohm per degree, negligible for most trim jobs.

Memory type is volatile — the wiper position resets to mid-scale on power-up. Tolerance is ±25% on the end-to-end resistance. That is typical for digital pots — the absolute resistance value is loose, but the ratiometric accuracy between taps is tight. If you need a precise divider ratio, this part delivers; if you need a specific 10 kOhm ±1%, look elsewhere.
