Active dual-channel digital pot with SPI control
The MAX5388MAUB+ is an active-production dual-channel digital potentiometer from Analog Devices, configured as either a potentiometer or rheostat per channel. It delivers 256 wiper tap positions per channel across a 50kΩ end-to-end resistance with a linear taper — the step size is roughly 195 Ω per tap, so the wiper voltage tracks the digital code linearly from the A terminal to the B terminal. The SPI interface writes the wiper register directly; no non-volatile storage means the wiper defaults to mid-scale on power-up and the register must be reloaded after each POR cycle.
Package, temperature grade, and wiper characteristics
Housed in a 10-pin 3mm×3mm uMAX/uSOP package (supplier device package 10-uMAX/uSOP), the part sits on a standard 0.65mm-pitch footprint. The 35ppm/°C temperature coefficient keeps the 50kΩ end-to-end resistance stable across the full temperature band — drift is about 1.75 Ω/°C, so a 50°C swing shifts the total resistance by less than 90 Ω. The wiper resistance is 250 Ω typical, which adds a fixed series offset at the wiper terminal regardless of tap position.
RoHS compliance and sourcing posture
The MAX5388MAUB+ is marked ROHS3 Compliant by Analog Devices, meeting the current EU RoHS exemption scope. It ships in tube packaging, suitable for hand-assembly or low-volume pick-and-place without reel fees.
