The MAX5388LAUB+ is a dual-channel digital potentiometer from Analog Devices, offering 256 taps per channel with a linear taper characteristic. The SPI interface allows direct connection to a microcontroller for wiper position control, making it suitable for volume control, signal scaling, and programmable gain stages. Each channel has a nominal resistance of 10kΩ with a wiper resistance of 250Ω typical. The ±25% tolerance on the end-to-end resistance is typical for digital potentiometers and should be accounted for in the circuit design where absolute accuracy matters.
Temperature range and drift for industrial use
The temperature coefficient of 35ppm/°C means the resistance drifts by only 0.35Ω per °C on a 10kΩ element, which is low enough for most precision analog circuits. For a 50°C swing, that is about 17.5Ω of drift — negligible in many gain-setting applications. The volatile memory type means the wiper position resets to midscale on power-up, so the system must initialize the wiper after each power cycle.
