8-bit dual DAC with 25 ns settling
The MAX5189BEEI+ is an 8-bit voltage-output DAC from Analog Devices, packing two independent converters in a 28-QSOP package. It uses a current-source architecture and delivers a typical settling time of 25 ns — fast enough for waveform generation or closed-loop control loops that update at multi-MHz rates. The parallel data interface means all eight bits are latched in one bus cycle — no serial clock overhead, which keeps the update rate deterministic for real-time systems.
Linearity and output flexibility
INL and DNL are both ±0.25 LSB typical — monotonicity is guaranteed, and the error stays below a quarter of the least-significant bit across the full code range. For an 8-bit system with 256 steps, that means the output lands within 0.1 % of the ideal value at every code. The DAC supports differential output, which doubles the effective signal swing and rejects common-mode noise picked up on the board trace between the DAC and the next stage. The reference can be either external or internal, giving the designer control over the full-scale voltage.
