What the ratings mean for the BOM line

The 49.8 % maximum duty cycle is a deliberate ceiling for forward converters — it guarantees the reset winding has time to demagnetise the core before the next cycle, preventing saturation. In a flyback, the same limit means the off-time is always long enough to transfer the stored energy to the secondary side. A single transistor-driver output with positive, isolation-capable configuration means the controller drives an external MOSFET on the primary side; the secondary-side regulation loop closes through an optocoupler or a transformer-coupled winding. No synchronous rectifier drive is built in, so the secondary uses a diode — fine for sub-50 W designs where the efficiency gain of a synchronous FET does not justify the added gate-drive complexity.
