Automotive step-down regulator with wide input range
The MAX5035DASA/V+T: It delivers 1A continuous output current from a 7.5V to 76V input range — the high-side limit covers 12V battery load-dump transients without an external clamp, while the 7.5V minimum lets it operate through cold-crank dips down to that threshold. The adjustable output is set with an external resistor divider from a 1.25V reference to a maximum of 13.2V. Switching frequency is fixed at 125kHz, which keeps switching losses low and EMI manageable for a power rail in an engine bay or transmission control module.
The non-synchronous topology (external Schottky diode required) keeps the BOM cost lower than a synchronous equivalent — a practical choice for a 1A rail where the diode conduction loss is acceptable against the cost saving.
