What this 8:1 mux brings to the bench
The Maxim Integrated MAX4691EGE+ is an 8:1 analog multiplexer in a compact 16-QFN (4x4 mm) package. It switches one of eight inputs to a common output, with a maximum on-resistance of 70 ohms and channel-to-channel matching within 2 ohms — tight enough for precision analog routing where channel-to-channel offset matters. Crosstalk is rated at -75 dB at 100 kHz, and charge injection is a low 0.1 pC, so switching between channels won't inject a glitch that corrupts a downstream ADC sample or sample-and-hold stage. Leakage current off-state is max 1 nA, keeping the signal path clean when the channel is deselected. Supply flexibility is a strong point: it runs from a single 2.7 V to 11 V rail, or from dual supplies of ±2 V to ±5.5 V, making it usable in both single-supply 3.3 V/5 V logic systems and bipolar analog front ends. The -40°C to 85°C temperature range covers industrial control, outdoor telecom, and factory automation environments.
Switching speed and timing budget
Turn-on time is 300 ns max, turn-off is 100 ns max. That's fast enough for audio-frequency multiplexing, sensor scanning at tens of kHz, and relay-replacement in automated test equipment. If you're switching at higher rates — say video or fast data acquisition — the 300 ns on-time starts to eat into the settling window, so budget accordingly.
Package and footprint
Housed in a 16-VQFN with exposed pad (supplier device package 16-QFN 4x4 mm), this is a surface-mount part. The exposed pad needs a thermal via stitch to the ground plane for heat sinking — without it, the junction temperature climbs faster under continuous operation. The tube shipping medium means it arrives in a rigid carrier, not tape, so plan for pick-and-place handling.
