Active 8:1 mux with 3.5 Ohm Ron — precision analog signal routing
The MAX4638EUE+T: Channel-to-channel matching holds within 100 mOhm, so all eight inputs see the same insertion loss — no gain calibration per channel needed in a multiplexed data-acquisition front end.
Supply flexibility and signal bandwidth
Dual ±2.5 V rails let it pass bipolar analog signals up to ±2.5 V swing — useful for industrial signal chains with ±10 V sensors scaled down by a divider. The 50 MHz -3 dB bandwidth supports video-rate signals and high-speed digitizers; the 18 ns turn-on and 7 ns turn-off times keep channel switching fast enough for 10 MSPS multiplexed ADC systems. Crosstalk is -85 dB at 1 MHz — a 50 mVpp signal on an adjacent channel leaks only about 2.8 µV into the active channel, well below the noise floor of a 16-bit ADC.
Charge injection and leakage — the precision analog specs
Charge injection is 13 pC typical — when the switch opens, that glitch charge dumps into the sampling capacitor. In a 100 pF hold cap it creates a 130 mV step, so this mux is better suited for continuous-time signals than for switched-capacitor sample-and-hold front ends without an external buffer. Maximum off-state leakage is 250 pA — at 25°C the typical value is lower, but budgeting the max across temperature keeps the error term under 0.01% of a 10 µA sensor current. Source-off capacitance is 9 pF, drain-off is 40 pF — the drain capacitance dominates the RC time constant at the output node, so keep the downstream load impedance below 50 kOhm to avoid bandwidth rolloff.
