8:1 multiplexer with 10 Ohm on-resistance
The MAX4617CUE+T is an 8:1 single-ended multiplexer/demultiplexer from Analog Devices, built for routing analog or digital signals across eight channels into one common I/O. The 10 Ohm max on-resistance sets the insertion loss floor — in a precision analog chain, that resistance in series with the signal source forms a voltage divider with the load impedance, so the downstream buffer's input impedance should be orders of magnitude higher to keep the gain error below a fraction of a percent. Switching time is 15 ns on, 10 ns off — fast enough to multiplex a 10 MHz analog signal without significant aperture distortion, or to scan eight sensor channels at a 5 MHz update rate before the next sample is ready.
Crosstalk and charge injection for signal integrity
Crosstalk is -96 dB at 100 kHz — that means a 1 Vpp signal on an adjacent channel couples less than 16 µV into the active channel at that frequency. For a 16-bit ADC with a 5 V reference, the LSB is 76 µV, so the crosstalk contribution stays well below one LSB across the audio band and into the low-MHz range. Charge injection is 3 pC typical — the charge dumped onto the signal node each time the switch transitions. In a sample-and-hold front-end driving a 10 pF hold capacitor, that 3 pC translates to a 300 mV glitch; the downstream circuit must settle this before the ADC conversion window closes. The 27 pF off-capacitance on the drain side contributes to the settling time constant when the channel is deselected. Off-leakage is 1 nA max at 25°C — in a high-impedance sensor interface with a 1 MΩ source, 1 nA of leakage from the disabled channels creates a 1 mV offset error that may need software calibration or a guard ring on the PCB.
Channel-to-channel on-resistance matching is 200 mOhm max — when the multiplexer is used in a gain-switching or resistor-ladder configuration, the mismatch between channels stays under 2% of the 10 Ohm nominal value, keeping the gain step error small without external trimming.
Package and board integration
The Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) options suit both production reel feeding and prototype hand-assembly quantities. Surface-mount assembly with standard lead-free reflow profiles; no exposed pad or thermal management requirement at the 10 Ohm on-resistance power levels.
