8:1 analog multiplexer in a 16-TSSOP package
The MAX4581EUE+T is an 8:1 single-ended analog multiplexer/demultiplexer from Analog Devices, packaged in a 16-TSSOP (4.40 mm width) for surface-mount assembly. It routes one of eight analog inputs to a common output, or operates in reverse as a demultiplexer, controlled by a 3-bit address line. On-resistance is 80 Ohm max, with channel-to-channel matching held to 1 Ohm — this keeps the insertion loss consistent across all eight paths, simplifying gain calibration in the downstream signal chain.
Operates from a single supply of 2 V to 12 V, or dual supplies of ±2 V to ±6 V, covering common analog rails like 5 V single or ±5 V bipolar. The 16-TSSOP package with 0.65 mm pitch requires a standard 4-layer PCB for clean signal routing; the narrow body keeps board footprint small for dense channel cards.
Analog performance: crosstalk, charge injection, and switching speed
Crosstalk is -78 dB at 1 MHz — this means a 1 Vpp signal on an unselected channel couples less than 160 µV into the active channel at that frequency, adequate for 12-bit systems switching audio or low-speed sensor signals. Charge injection is 0.5 pC typical, so the voltage glitch when switching into a 10 pF sample-and-hold capacitor is roughly 50 mV — acceptable for many ADC front-ends but worth budgeting in precision DC applications. Switching times are 200 ns turn-on and 100 ns turn-off, supporting channel update rates above 1 MHz in scanning multiplexer applications. Off-leakage current is 1 nA max, and off-channel capacitance is 4 pF (source) and 18 pF (drain), keeping the loading on unselected nodes low.
