8:1 analog mux in a 16-TSSOP footprint
The MAX4581CUE+T is an 8:1 single-ended analog multiplexer/demultiplexer from Analog Devices, packaged in a 16-TSSOP (4.40 mm width) for surface-mount assembly. The 8:1 topology routes one of eight inputs to a common output, controlled by a 3-bit address line — standard for data acquisition systems where multiple sensor channels share a single ADC. On-state resistance is 80 Ohm max, with channel-to-channel matching held to 1 Ohm. This matching matters when the downstream circuit expects uniform gain across all mux channels — a 1 Ohm mismatch into a 10 kOhm load introduces less than 0.01% gain error, negligible for 12-bit systems.
Supply range and switching performance
Single-supply operation spans 2 V to 12 V; dual supplies run ±2 V to ±6 V. Switching times are 200 ns on, 100 ns off — fast enough for audio crossfades at 48 kHz sample rates and for multiplexing sensor signals into a SAR ADC with a 1 µs acquisition window. Charge injection is 0.5 pC typical, which keeps glitch energy below 1 mV into a 10 pF hold capacitor. Crosstalk between channels is -78 dB at 1 MHz, meaning a 1 Vpp signal on one input leaks less than 125 µV into an adjacent channel at that frequency. For audio or low-frequency instrumentation, the isolation is effectively complete.
