8:1 analog multiplexer with 80 Ohm Ron and -78 dB crosstalk
The MAX4581CUE+ is an 8-channel single-ended analog multiplexer/demultiplexer (8:1 configuration) from Analog Devices, housed in a 16-TSSOP package. It routes one of eight analog inputs to a common output, or demultiplexes a single input across eight outputs, controlled by a 3-bit address line. On-resistance is 80 Ohm max, with channel-to-channel matching held to 1 Ohm — this keeps the insertion loss uniform across all paths, so gain calibration stays consistent regardless of which channel is active. Crosstalk is -78 dB at 1 MHz, meaning a signal on one channel couples into an adjacent channel at roughly 0.016% amplitude — adequate for 12-bit systems switching audio or low-frequency sensor signals without guard traces between channels.
Switching speed, charge injection, and supply flexibility
Turn-on time is 200 ns max, turn-off 100 ns max — the asymmetrical timing means the output goes high-impedance faster than it connects, preventing momentary shoot-through in break-before-make sequences. Charge injection is 0.5 pC typical — when the switch opens, the charge dumped onto the load capacitance shifts the sampled voltage by roughly 0.5 pC / C_load. For a 10 pF hold capacitor, that is a 50 mV glitch, so this part suits sample-and-hold front-ends where the glitch settles within the acquisition window. Single-supply range is 2 V to 12 V; dual supplies ±2 V to ±6 V are also supported. The dual-supply mode lets the switch pass bipolar signals centered on ground without level-shifting the control logic. Leakage current is 1 nA max off-channel — negligible in high-impedance circuits where the source impedance is below 100 kOhm, but worth derating if the source is a 10 MOhm photodiode where 1 nA leakage becomes a significant error term.
