Signal-path switch for audio/video routing
The MAX4562CEE+ is a 4-channel analog switch from Analog Devices designed for routing audio and video signals. It integrates SPST and SPDT switch circuits with 2:1 and 1:2 multiplexer/demultiplexer configurations, controlled via an I²C interface. The -3 dB bandwidth of 300 MHz means the switch passes composite video and standard-definition component video without significant roll-off — the passband comfortably covers the 6 MHz luminance carrier and the 3.58 MHz colour subcarrier of NTSC, with headroom for higher-resolution formats. On-state resistance is 30 Ohm maximum, which sets the insertion loss into a 75 Ohm video load. For a typical source impedance of 75 Ohm, the switch adds roughly 0.4 dB of loss — negligible for a single stage but worth budgeting if the signal passes through multiple switches in the chain.
Switching architecture and control
Break-before-make switching ensures the two signal paths never short together during a transition — critical for audio applications where a momentary short between channels would produce an audible pop or thump. The I²C interface controls the T-Switch configuration, which routes each of the four channels independently.
Available in a 16-lead SSOP package (0.154-inch width, 3.90 mm) or the equivalent 16-QSOP supplier device package. Both are surface-mount with a 0.025-inch pitch — the footprint is standard and routes cleanly on a two-layer board for the analog signal paths. Not specified for extended industrial or automotive temperature ranges. Supplied in a Tube — the standard 16-SSOP tube quantity. The ROHS3 compliance certifies the part is lead-free and meets EU RoHS directive requirements.
