Triple SPDT with force-sense routing
The Maxim Integrated MAX4556ESE+ is a triple SPDT analog switch in a 16-SOIC narrow-body package, designed for force-sense (Kelvin) measurement applications where low on-resistance and break-before-make switching prevent signal-path errors. Each of the three channels switches one common terminal between two independent signal paths (2:1 multiplexer/demultiplexer topology), with a maximum on-resistance of 6 Ohms across the rated supply range.
Break-before-make — why it matters for force-sense
Break-before-make switching ensures the switch opens the existing connection before closing the new one. In force-sense (Kelvin) circuits, this eliminates momentary shorting between the force and sense lines, which would otherwise inject a current transient into the measurement path and corrupt the reading. The MAX4556ESE+ is explicitly rated for force-sense applications, so the internal switch architecture is optimised for this use case.
Package and mounting
Housed in a 16-SOIC (0.154", 3.90mm width) surface-mount package with a standard SOIC-16 footprint. The narrow-body variant is common in mixed-signal designs and reflows on standard lead-free profiles. Supplier device package is 16-SOIC.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
Lifecycle status is Active with ROHS3 compliance. No last-time-buy or end-of-life notice is in effect, so this part remains available through normal distribution.
