160 Ohm on-resistance and 500 ns switching — the analog path budget
The MAX4512ESE+: 160 Ohm max on-resistance sets the insertion loss in the signal path — into a 10 kOhm load the voltage divider drops about 1.6 %, acceptable for most ADC front-ends but worth derating if driving a low-impedance input directly. Maximum turn-on time is 500 ns, turn-off 400 ns. For a multiplexed data-acquisition system scanning 4 channels at 100 kSPS, the switch settles well within one sample period — the 500 ns window is the absolute ceiling, not the typical.
Charge injection, leakage, and crosstalk — the precision envelope
Charge injection is 1.5 pC typical — when the switch opens, that charge dumps into the sampling capacitor. In a 12-bit, 10 pF hold cap the voltage error is about 150 µV, below one LSB for a 5 V reference. The 500 pA max off-leakage means the held voltage drifts less than 50 µV over a 100 µs hold interval at 25 °C. Channel capacitance is 10 pF source off, 5 pF drain off. Crosstalk is -66 dB at 1 MHz — for a 10 Vpp signal on an adjacent channel, the feedthrough into the off channel is about 5 mVpp, which limits the usable dynamic range in a multi-channel audio or vibration front-end.
