1.5A peak output, 20ns edges — what that means on the bench
The MAX4427CSA+ is a dual low-side gate driver that sources and sinks 1.5 A peak, with 20 ns typical rise and fall times into a 1 nF load. That 1.5 A peak current is the number that matters when charging the gate capacitance of a power MOSFET — it determines how fast the FET transitions through the linear region, which directly sets the switching loss. The 20 ns edges mean the driver can switch a medium-power FET at several hundred kHz without the gate waveform spending excessive time in the Miller plateau.
Supply rails and logic thresholds
The inputs are non-inverting, and the two channels are independent — each channel has its own input pin, so you can drive two separate FETs with independent PWM signals.
Gate type compatibility — N-channel and P-channel
The driver works with both N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs. Because it is a low-side driver (the output switches between ground and the supply rail), it is typically paired with an N-channel FET where the source is referenced to ground — the most common topology for buck converters, boost converters, and push-pull stages. The 1.5 A peak output is enough to drive a single large FET or a paralleled pair of smaller FETs at moderate frequency.
