Dual buffer with 4200 V/µs — what that slew rate buys you
The MAX4204ESA+ from Maxim Integrated is a dual-channel buffer amplifier in an 8-SOIC package. Its headline rating is a 4200 V/µs slew rate paired with a 720 MHz -3 dB bandwidth — numbers that put it in the class of parts designed for video distribution, high-speed pulse driving, and fast-settling signal chains where a unity-gain buffer must not limit the system's rise time. Each of the two channels draws 2.2 mA supply current, which is notably low for this speed class. The trade-off is a supply voltage range of 8 V to 11 V — this is not a 5 V or 3.3 V part, so the rail needs to be a regulated 8 V to 11 V supply, typically a 9 V or 10 V rail in video or instrumentation gear. Input offset voltage is 1 mV max, input bias current 800 nA, and each channel can deliver 52 mA output current. The industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C covers most indoor and outdoor telecom, test equipment, and industrial control environments, but not automotive under-hood or extended military applications.
