Active current sense amplifier in 8-SOIC
The MAX4080FASA+T is a single-channel current sense amplifier from Analog Devices, offered in an 8-SOIC package. It monitors current by sensing the voltage drop across a shunt resistor in the supply rail, with a supply span from 4.5 V to 76 V. The 250 kHz bandwidth is sufficient for DC rail monitoring and low-frequency switching supply ripple; for faster transient capture, a wider-bandwidth part would be needed.
Supply range and quiescent current
The 4.5 V minimum supply lets it run off a 5 V rail, while the 76 V maximum covers 48 V telecom or 60 V automotive bus monitoring without an external regulator. The 75 µA supply current keeps the thermal contribution negligible in a dense PCB layout and suits always-on current monitoring in battery-operated equipment.
Temperature grade and package
The 8-SOIC package (0.154" width, 3.90 mm body) is a standard footprint — the 0.050-inch pitch is readily routable on a two-layer board for low-current sense paths.
Active production — sourcing posture
The Tape & Reel option is the standard distribution format for volume assembly; Cut Tape is also available for prototyping.
