What the 1.6 MHz bandwidth buys you in a current-sense amp
The MAX4073HAUT+T is a single-channel current sense amplifier from Analog Devices built for high-side sensing across a 3 V to 28 V supply span. Its 1.6 MHz -3 dB bandwidth means it resolves current transients faster than most general-purpose sense amps — useful for monitoring switching loads or detecting short-duration overcurrent events in a motor phase or solenoid driver.
Supply current and temperature grade — the continuous-monitoring tradeoff
The -40°C to 125°C operating range covers automotive under-hood and industrial cabinet environments, so the offset drift and gain error stay bounded across the full temperature swing.
Input offset and bias — what they mean for the shunt resistor
With a 1 mV typical input offset voltage and 40 µA input bias current, the error floor at the output depends on the shunt value. A 10 mΩ shunt carrying 10 A produces 100 mV across the sense terminals; the 1 mV offset contributes 1 % error at that point. The 40 µA bias flows through the shunt and adds a small voltage drop — negligible with a 10 mΩ shunt (0.4 µV) but noticeable if the shunt is in the ohm range for very low current sensing.
Package and board fit for a tight layout
Housed in a 6-pin SOT-23 (supplier package SOT-6), the footprint is compact enough for dense mixed-signal boards where a sense amp sits near the shunt and ADC. Surface-mount only — no through-hole option. Tape & Reel and Cut Tape options on the ordering side, so prototype quantities and production reels are both covered without a packaging change.
