The MAX4051CSE+ is an 8:1 single-ended multiplexer/demultiplexer from Analog Devices, built to route one of eight analog or digital signals to a common output. The 100 Ohm max on-state resistance sets the insertion loss floor — in a 10 kOhm source impedance path, that 100 Ohm adds about 1% gain error, which is negligible for most 8-bit systems but worth budgeting for 12-bit+ precision chains. Crosstalk is specified at -90 dB at 100 kHz, meaning a full-swing signal on one channel couples less than 32 µV into an adjacent off-channel at that frequency. That figure holds up well for audio-frequency multiplexing or low-speed data acquisition where channel isolation matters more than raw switching speed.
Charge injection and switching speed for sample-and-hold front ends
Charge injection is 2 pC typical — when the switch opens, that charge dumps onto the sampling capacitor. For a 10 nF hold cap, the resulting voltage step is 200 µV, which is acceptable for 10-bit accuracy but starts to eat into the LSB budget at 12 bits. The 175 ns turn-on and 150 ns turn-off times (max) set the throughput ceiling: at 1 MHz switching, the on-time window is 1 µs minus 175 ns, leaving 825 ns for the signal to settle through the 100 Ohm path plus load capacitance. Supply flexibility is a practical advantage: single-supply operation from 2 V to 16 V, or dual supplies from ±2.7 V to ±8 V.
Active lifecycle, ROHS3, and commercial temperature grade
ROHS3 compliant, so it clears EU regulatory gates without an exemption certificate. The 16-SOIC footprint is a standard JEDEC outline, so PCB layout follows the familiar SOIC-16 land pattern with 1.27 mm pitch.
