Current sense amplifier with 5 µV offset
The MAX40056UAUA/V+ is a single-channel current sense amplifier from Analog Devices, built for precision low-side or high-side current monitoring. The 5 µV typical input offset voltage keeps the measurement error small at low shunt voltages — a 50 mV full-scale drop across the sense resistor sees less than 0.01% offset error, so the reading stays accurate down to milliamps without a precision reference.
Bandwidth and slew rate for fast fault detection
With a 300 kHz -3 dB bandwidth and 1.5 V/µs slew rate, this amplifier responds to current transients in under 2 µs — fast enough to catch overcurrent events in a switching regulator output or a motor phase leg before the silicon heats up. The push-pull, rail-to-rail output swings within 20 mV of the supply rails, so the downstream ADC or comparator sees the full dynamic range without a level shift.
Supply range and temperature grade
Operates from 2.7 V to 5.5 V — covers 3.3 V and 5 V logic rails, plus the 2.7 V floor allows use in Li-ion battery-powered designs where the rail dips under load. The -40°C to +125°C operating range qualifies it for under-hood automotive or industrial enclosure environments where ambient hits 85°C and self-heating adds another 20°C. The 6 mA supply current is a fixed bias — it does not scale with bandwidth, so the power budget is predictable across temperature.
