The Maxim MAX3646ETG+ is a single-channel laser diode driver rated for 622 Mbps data rate, built for SONET/SDH and Fibre Channel optical transceiver modules. It delivers up to 100 mA bias current and 85 mA modulation current from a 2.97 V to 3.63 V supply rail, with the modulation current controlling the optical extinction ratio directly. The 24-TQFN (4x4 mm) package with exposed pad sits on a standard fibre-optic module PCB layout, and the -40°C to 85°C operating range covers central-office and outdoor telecom cabinet environments.

The 100 mA bias current sets the DC operating point; the 85 mA modulation current is superimposed to produce the optical eye diagram.
