Product details

Half-duplex RS-485 transceiver at 2.5 Mbps

The MAX3486CSA+T: The 2.5 Mbps data rate is sufficient for most industrial fieldbus applications like Modbus RTU or Profibus DP at standard baud rates, though it won't hit the 10 Mbps+ ceiling of faster RS-485 parts. The 50 mV receiver hysteresis provides built-in noise rejection on long cable runs — on a 1000-meter RS-485 bus, ground potential differences and reflections can inject tens of millivolts of differential noise, and the hysteresis prevents the receiver from chattering on those edges.

Package and board integration

The 1.27 mm pin pitch is standard for SOIC-8, easily routed on a two-layer board with a ground plane under the device for thermal and signal integrity.
