RS-485/RS-422 transceiver in a through-hole DIP
The MAX3440EEPA+ is a half-duplex transceiver supporting RS-422 and RS-485 protocols, with one driver and one receiver in an 8-pin PDIP package. Data rate is rated at 250 kbps — a moderate speed suited for fieldbus links, Modbus networks, and other low-to-medium throughput applications where signal integrity over longer cable runs matters more than raw throughput. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 85°C, covering industrial environments such as factory floors, outdoor telecom cabinets, and HVAC controllers, but not extended automotive or downhole applications. Receiver hysteresis is specified at 25 mV, which helps reject noise on the bus lines in electrically noisy environments without external filtering.
