RS-485/RS-422 transceiver in a through-hole DIP

The MAX3430CPA+ is a single half-duplex transceiver supporting both RS-422 and RS-485 protocols, with one driver and one receiver integrated into an 8-pin PDIP package. Rated for 250 kbps maximum data rate, it fits industrial fieldbus links, building automation, and instrumentation buses where the cable length and noise margin favour slower, more robust signalling.

Half-duplex bus and receiver hysteresis

Half-duplex operation means the driver and receiver share the same differential pair — the bus must be turned around between transmit and receive, which is the standard topology for RS-485 multi-drop networks. The receiver includes 25 mV of hysteresis, which rejects noise on long cable runs and prevents output chatter when the differential input is near zero.

ROHS3 compliant — no restricted substances above the exemption thresholds, and the lead-free finish is compatible with standard reflow and wave-solder profiles for through-hole assembly.
