The MAX3380EEUP+: It handles serial data at rates up to 460 kbps, which covers the common 115.2 kbps and 230.4 kbps baud rates used in industrial control, point-of-sale terminals, and instrumentation with margin to spare.

Supply range and receiver hysteresis

The 300 mV receiver hysteresis filters out noise on the incoming RS-232 line — a 300 mV dead band means a 200 mV noise spike on a 5 V signal won't toggle the logic output.

Package and board-fit

Surface-mount in a 20-TSSOP (4.40 mm width) — the 0.65 mm pitch is routable on a two-layer board with careful trace spacing. The supplier device package is also 20-TSSOP, so the footprint is consistent across the supply chain.
