16:1 multiplexer with precision analog specs
The MAX336EAI+: This is a single-circuit 16:1 multiplexer/demultiplexer — it routes one of sixteen analog inputs to a common output, or the reverse. The 400 Ohm max on-resistance is typical for a CMOS analog switch of this channel count; the 5 Ohm channel-to-channel matching means the resistance variation between selected channels stays tight, which matters when the mux feeds a high-impedance ADC input where the voltage drop across Ron must be predictable. Switching time is 500 ns max for both turn-on and turn-off, so the mux can cycle through channels at roughly 1 MHz without the output settling into the wrong state. Charge injection is 3.5 pC — low enough that the injected charge does not corrupt a sample-and-hold capacitor in a precision data-acquisition front end.
Supply flexibility and signal integrity
That dual-supply capability lets the switch handle bipolar analog signals without external level shifting — a ±15 V rail is common in industrial data-acquisition systems, and this mux sits directly on it. Crosstalk is -86 dB at 100 kHz, meaning the signal on one channel couples into an adjacent channel at roughly 50 µV per volt of signal — negligible for 12-bit systems and still usable for 16-bit at lower frequencies. Off-leakage current is 20 pA max, so the mux does not load the signal source when the channel is deselected. Channel capacitance is 2 pF on the source side and 20 pF on the drain side — the 20 pF on the common output sets the RC time constant with the Ron and the load, which limits the settling time when switching between channels. For a 10 kOhm load, the time constant is 200 ns, well within the 500 ns switching window.
