Memory budget and peripheral selection
On-chip memory is 256 KB of flash and 96 KB of SRAM. For a typical sensor hub running a real-time OS, the flash holds the application stack plus a bootloader, and the SRAM leaves room for a few large data buffers without external memory. The 14 GPIOs are the hard limit on peripheral mapping. With I²C, SPI, and UART/USART connectivity plus I²S for audio or time-series data, you will likely need to mux the serial interfaces across the available pins — a layout decision to make before the schematic is locked. Additional on-chip peripherals include DMA, PWM, a watchdog timer, brown-out detect, and power-on reset.
